Substitute Michael Chopra celebrated his first appearance of the season by scoring two late goals as Sunderland won a frantic Wear-Tees derby.

Chopra ran on to Kieran Richardson’s through-ball and slid the ball past Ross Turnbull for the opener.

And he tapped home the second in injury-time to seal victory.

Boro were on top for much of the game but Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon made several fine saves and Stewart Downing blasted a penalty over the bar.
