Stoke dominated but the Baggies looked set for a point from a dreadful game until Sidibe headed in Danny Higginbotham’s left-wing cross.

Sidibe also went close with a fine long-range strike that was well saved by goalkeeper Scott Carson.

At the other end Ishmael Miller shot over and substitute Filipe Teixeira wasted a superb late chance.

Apart from those rare glimpses of goal the match was a huge disappointment and Sidibe’s majestic winner was out of keeping with a game lacking in quality.
