Head-to-head

Wigan are vying to complete their first league double over Tottenham, having won the reverse fixture 1-0 in November courtesy of Ben Watson’s second-half goal.

Tottenham have only lost one of their previous seven trips to Wigan (W1, D3, L3).

Wigan

Wigan have only managed one point and one goal in their last three games, although they were all away fixtures.

They could register three successive home wins for the first time this season.

The Latics have lost 18 league matches – already one more than the whole of last season.

Despite their reputation for late-season surges, Wigan have only won seven of 34 Premier League games in April and averaged less than a point per game (W7, 11, L16). Their win ratio for April (21%) is lower than their overall rate in the Premier League (28%).

Roberto Martinez’s side have the division’s worst record against top-half opposition this season, with 13 defeats and just two wins in 16 matches. They have lost all four home games without scoring so far against clubs currently in the top five.

Gary Caldwell could make his 100th Premier League appearance for Wigan, and Maynor Figueroa will play his 200th game for the club in all competitions.

Tottenham

Spurs have come from behind to win five league matches this season – a record bettered only by Manchester United.

Their tally of 61 points is their equal-best record at this stage of a Premier League season, level with 2009-2010.

Tottenham have conceded in their last eight league matches – their longest run without a clean sheet since a 17-match streak in 2010.

April is the cruellest month for Spurs, who have lost a Premier League-high 35 matches in that period.

Gareth Bale has been involved in 12 goals (scoring nine and assisting three) in his last nine league appearances.

Michael Dawson is poised to make his 200th Premier League appearance for Tottenham.
