Head-to-head

This is only their second meeting in the top flight; Southampton won 1-0 at St Mary’s earlier in the season.

They met twice in the Championship last season. They drew 1-1 at the Madejski and Reading then won 3-1 at Southampton.

Southampton have only won once away at Reading in the league since 1957.

Reading

Reading have lost six successive league games – one away from the worst Premier League sequence this season, which they also set.

Hal Robson-Kanu is the only Reading player to have scored in their last five Premier League matches (they also benefited from an own goal against Aston Villa).

Ten of their 23 goals scored at home this season have come after the 80th minute.

Nigel Adkins managed Southampton from September 2010 to January 2013. He was in charge for 124 games, winning 67, drawing 25 and losing 32.

Southampton

Southampton are vying to win three successive Premier League matches for the first time since August-September 2003.

Mauricio Pochettino has won three of his nine matches in charge of Southampton since taking over from Nigel Adkins – all at home against three of the top seven: Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

The Saints have scored more goals (44) than any other team outside the top seven.

Rickie Lambert’s 14 league goals makes him the highest scoring Englishman in the division. The last player to score as many Premier League goals for Southampton in one league season was James Beattie (14) in 2003-2004.
