Head-to-head

The Hammers were the only side that managed to keep a clean sheet both home and away against Newcastle United in the Premier League last season – they also managed one in the 0-0 draw between the sides in August.

Newcastle have lost just one of their last seven matches at Upton Park.

West Ham United

West Ham’s win over Cardiff was their first in eight league matches.

Their 2-0 win was only the sixth time in 21 league matches this season that they had scored more than two goals in a game.

They picked up their ninth clean sheet of the season (the joint highest in the top flight) against Cardiff, after previously conceding 22 goals in six matches in all competitions.

Carlton Cole has scored three times in his last five Premier League appearances.

The Hammers have lost 14 points from winning positions this season, more than any other team.

Newcastle United

After a run of one defeat in nine, Newcastle have lost their last three matches.

This the first time they have failed to score in three successive league games in the same season since they were relegated in 2008-09.

They have yet to draw an away game this season, having won five and lost five of their 10 fixtures so far. They only managed two away victories in the whole of last season.
