Head-to-head

After losing to Burnley at Turf Moor in the 2009-10 season, Manchester United won the return fixture 3-0 at Old Trafford – Dimitar Berbatov, Wayne Rooney and Mame Biram Diouf scored the goals.

The Clarets’ last league win over United prior to August 2009 was in September 1968.

Manchester United’s last top-flight away win at Burnley came in April 1976.

This is the 121st meeting between the sides. Manchester United have won 57 times, Burnley 44 and there have been 19 draws.

Burnley

The Clarets have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 29 Premier League games since a 2-0 win at home against Hull City on 31 October 2009.

They have won just three of those 29 matches.

Burnley have kept only three clean sheets in 40 Premier League games, but one of them came at home to Manchester United.

The Clarets are one of two teams (along with Barnsley) never to have been involved in a goalless draw in the Premier League.

Manchester United

One point from two games is Manchester United’s worst start to a league campaign since the inaugural Premier League season of 1992-93, when they lost both of their opening matches but still won the title.

The start made by Louis van Gaal in the league is the same as Alex Ferguson’s opening two matches as United manager.

They have kept only two clean sheets in their last 10 Premier League games, and they have now failed to keep a clean sheet for five consecutive league matches away from home.

United’s 4-0 defeat by MK Dons was the first time they have conceded four goals in a League Cup match against lower-league opposition.

After two matches this season, the Red Devils have the lowest cross completion rate in the top flight so far (5% – excluding corners).
