Manchester City strikers Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic look set to continue up front with Sergio Aguero not ready to play a full 90 minutes.

French defender Eliaquim Mangala isn’t fit enough yet to be involved following his £32m move from Porto.

Liverpool could give Serbian midfielder Lazar Markovic his debut after he recovered from a hamstring injury.

Defender Alberto Moreno could also make his first start but the match comes too soon for fellow new boy Adam Lallana.

Head-to-head

Manchester City are unbeaten in their last five league meetings with Liverpool at home (W3, D2).

Last season the home side won when these teams met. The last time the away side left with a
victory in the league was Liverpool’s 3-2 victory at Eastlands in October 2008.

Both City and Liverpool won only two of their six games against fellow members of the top four in 2013-14 – including a win apiece against each other.

Manchester City

Last season City won more league matches at home than any other Premier League side with 17 victories (W17, D1, L1) and they are unbeaten in seven games at the Etihad.

They have scored in each of their last 14 Premier League games.

City scored 63 goals in their 19 home matches in the league last year. That was more than 15 of the 20 Premier League clubs managed in total.

Edin Dzeko has scored five goals and assisted one in his last five league appearances.

Liverpool

Liverpool have now scored in 28 of their last 29 Premier League games and they only failed to find the net in one of their away matches last season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are unbeaten in all nine Premier League away matches in 2014 (W7, D2).
They haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last seven league matches.

The Reds have scored at least twice in their last seven away matches in the league, one short of their club record set between November 1962 and April 1963. The last club to score two or more goals in eight consecutive away matches was Manchester United in 2001-2002.

Daniel Sturridge is the leading Premier League goalscorer in the calendar year of 2014 with 14 goals. Edin Dzeko, Wilfried Bony and Luis Suarez are next with 12.
