Man City 4-1 Southampton Highlights

Manchester City kept up the pressure on their Premier League title rivals with a win over Southampton.

Edin Dzeko made the most of a Jose Fonte tackle to win a penalty for City, which Yaya Toure confidently converted.

Jay Rodriguez went off on a stretcher for Saints, who equalised with a Rickie Lambert spot-kick after Pablo Zabaleta tripped Jack Cork.

But Samir Nasri tapped in, Dzeko headed home and Stevan Jovetic slotted in from close range to seal City’s victory.

Head-to-head

Southampton have won five of their last 10 Premier League games against Manchester City (D2, L3).

However, Saints have lost their last three league and cup games at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City

Mathieu Flamini’s equaliser for Arsenal last week ended Manchester City’s run of nine hours and 21 minutes without conceding a goal in the Premier League – their longest such run in the competition.

City are the only team yet to draw a Premier League home game this season. They have won 13 of their 14 games so far, with their only defeat coming against Chelsea.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have won 19 of the 23 league games in which they opened the scoring this season (D2, L2).

They have used the fewest players of any team in the Premier League this season (23).

Southampton

Saints’ 4-0 victory against Newcastle was their biggest Premier League win since beating Leicester by the same scoreline on 8 December 2001.

Their points tally of 48 is their highest after 32 top-flight matches since the 1984-85 season, when they eventually finished fifth.

Southampton have dropped more points from winning positions than any other team in the Premier League (18).

The only English player to have scored more Premier League goals than Jay Rodriguez (15) this season is Daniel Sturridge (20).

Only Luis Suarez (11) has more goal assists than Rickie Lambert (10) in the Premier League this season.
