Head-to-head

Liverpool won at Arsenal for the first time in 11 and a half years in last season’s corresponding fixture. Luis Suarez was among the goalscorers.

It remains Liverpool’s only victory in their last 11 league meetings against Arsenal (D6, L4).

There have been more hat-tricks scored in this fixture than any other in Premier League history (five).

This is the 214th meeting between these clubs in all competitions. Liverpool lead by 82 wins to Arsenal’s 76.

Arsenal

The Gunners have won 10 league matches, their fewest ever at this stage of a season since Arsene Wenger took charge in September 1996.

They have 37 points from 23 matches, the same tally as at this stage of last season.

Arsenal have yet to lose a league game in which they took the lead this season, winning seven times and drawing twice.

Theo Walcott has already scored a career-high 17 goals for the season in all competitions, including a best-ever tally of 10 goals in the Premier League.

Olivier Giroud has scored four goals in the club’s last three league home matches. He has scored seven Premier League goals at the Emirates this season – more than any other Arsenal player.

Liverpool

The Reds have won six of their last nine league matches, losing the other three.

They have scored in each of their last 10 league fixtures – their best scoring run since an 18-match streak between January and May 2011.

However, they have failed to win a league match this season in which they conceded the opening goal (D3, L5).

Luis Suarez is the first Liverpool player to reach 20 goals in a season before the end of January since Michael Owen 11 years ago.

Joe Allen could make his 150th career league appearance.
