Aston Villa 1-0 Chelsea Highlights

Chelsea’s title bid suffered a major blow with a defeat by Aston Villa in which two Blues players and manager Jose Mourinho were sent off.

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic had a goal disallowed at the end of the first half when he was ruled to have handled.

Villa’s Fabian Delph flicked in Marc Albrighton’s cross to put his team in front after Willian had been shown a second yellow card.

Ramires and Mourinho were both ordered off in a bad-tempered finale.

Head-to-head

Aston Villa’s only win in the last five meetings at Villa Park came in October 2009.

Chelsea have won the last four Premier League meetings, scoring 16 goals. It is their best top-flight winning run against Villa.

Aston Villa

Villa earned a first win in five games, and their biggest margin of victory this season, when they beat Norwich 4-1 last time out.

Nonetheless, Villa only average a point per game at home this season – as they do from their last 52 league games at Villa Park. They have lost half of those fixtures (W13, D13, L26).

They have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven home games since the goalless draw with Sunderland in November, conceding 13 goals in that spell. The Villans have only kept two clean sheets in their last 25 Premier League home matches.

Christian Benteke has scored five goals in his last eight league matches, doubling his tally for the season. He has scored in each of his last two appearances against Chelsea.

Chelsea

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 14 league matches, taking 36 points out of a possible 42 (W11, D3).

They have kept nine clean sheets in their last 13 Premier League matches and conceded only four goals in that period.

The Blues have gained 14 points this season from losing positions. Aston Villa (13 points) have the next best record; both sides have come from behind to win four matches.

Frank Lampard has scored 13 Premier League goals versus Aston Villa – more than against any other team.
