West Brom have never beaten Manchester United in the Premier League (D3, L11).
The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 18 league games against the Baggies, whose last win in this fixture was 2-0 at The Hawthorns in March 1984.
However, West Brom did beat United in a League Cup tie on home turf in 2003.
Defeat on Saturday would leave United with their lowest ever points tally after six games of a Premier League season, and would represent their worst top-flight start since 1989-90.
A draw would make this the Red Devils’ poorest start since 2002-03. That season they claimed eight points from their opening six games but still went on to win the title.
The 4-1 defeat by Manchester City was the first time the Red Devils have lost a league or cup game by more than one goal since a 3-0 loss at Newcastle in January 2012.
Michael Carrick has made 26 interceptions this season, eight more than any other Premier League player.
West Bromwich Albion
Victory against Sunderland last weekend gave the Baggies their first victory in nine league games (W1, D3, L5).
Stephane Sessegnon became only the third player to score on his Premier League debut in a match against the club they had just left. The other two were Ipswich’s Ian Marshall (against Oldham in 1993) and Sunderland’s Stern John (versus Birmingham in 2007).
Three of Albion’s four league goals this season have arrived in the final 15 minutes of matches.
