QPR 0-1 Hull City Highlights

QPR made a losing start to their Premier League return as James Chester’s header gave Hull an opening-day victory at Loftus Road.

Chester outmuscled Rangers debutant Rio Ferdinand at the back post to head in from a corner early in the second half.

The home side had a superb chance to salvage a point after Chester was harshly adjudged to have handled a cross from substitute Junior Hoilett.

But Allan McGregor rescued City by saving Charlie Austin’s penalty.

Head-to-head

This is the first time the two sides have met in the top flight.

They last met in the Championship in 2010-11, when both matches were drawn.

Hull’s last win over QPR at Loftus Road came in 1963 in the old Division Three.

The Tigers have only won twice in 22 visits to QPR.

QPR

QPR won just seven of their last 19 regular season matches in the Championship.

They have taken just one point from six opening weekend matches in the Premier League (D1, L5).

Their new signing Rio Ferdinand last conceded a foul in the Premier League on New Year’s Day 2013. He has made 26 appearances in the competition without being penalised since.

Hull

In 10 matches as a manager, Steve Bruce has enjoyed just two victories on the opening weekend of a Premier League season (D4, L4).

If only second halves of matches had counted last season, Hull would have been five points adrift at the foot of the table.

Only Cardiff (12) won fewer points than Hull City (14) in the Premier League in 2014.

Hull conceded at least two goals in their last five Premier League games of last season and they failed to win a league match from 5 April onwards.
