Head-to-head

The sides have met only twice in the last 29 years. Swansea took four points off Saints in the Championship in 2008-09, winning 3-0 at home and drawing 2-2 away.

The Swans’ last win away to Southampton was a 4-1 victory in March 1953 in a Division Two game. Saints were relegated to the third tier at the end of that season.

Southampton

Of the six previous clubs who lost eight or more of their opening 10 Premier League matches, all but one were relegated. The only club to escape from that position was Southampton in 1993-94.

Saints have conceded 28 goals in their first 10 games, equalling the Premier League record (set by Barnsley in 1997-98).

They have surrendered 11 points from winning positions this season – only Fulham (12) have a worse record.

They are the first team in Premier League history to trail in each of their opening 10 matches of the season.

Saints have conceded 1,997 home league goals.

Swansea

The Swans have won one of their last eight league games. However, their only defeat in their last five league and cup games was 1-0 at Manchester City.

They have taken 12 points from their opening 10 league games, just as they did last season under Brendan Rodgers, but have scored five more goals.

Michael Laudrup’s men began the season with a 5-0 win at QPR but have lost their three away league games since then without scoring a goal.

Garry Monk could start his 250th game for Swansea in all competitions.
