However, Alan Pardew’s side have lost just two of their last 14 Premier League home games.

Demba Ba has scored six of Newcastle’s nine league goals so far this season. Hatem Ben Arfa (2) and Yohan Cabaye (1) have scored the others.

Newcastle have 10 points from their first eight league games – six fewer than they had at the equivalent stage of last season.

West Brom

The Baggies are looking for their first Premier League away win of the season and have won only one of their last nine away league games (1-0 at Anfield in April).

They have scored just two away league goals this season, the joint-lowest in the Premier League with West Ham, Aston Villa and Norwich.

West Brom have 14 points from their first eight league games – their most at this stage of a top-flight season since 1982-83 when they also had 14.

Albion boss Steve Clarke took charge of Newcastle United for one game as caretaker manager in 1999 – a 5-1 defeat by Manchester United.
