Swansea 2-3 Man City Stats and Highlights

Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League with a stylish victory over Swansea City in a gripping first top-flight game of 2014.

Fernandinho’s low strike put City ahead but Wilfried Bony deservedly headed the Swans level in first-half injury time.

City upped the tempo after the break, Yaya Toure’s deflected shot restoring the lead and Aleksandar Kolarov’s superb goal seemingly sealing the win.

Bony’s late long-range shot ensured a nervy finale but the visitors held on.

Head-to-head

The Swans have lost three of their five Premier League games against Manchester City (W1, D1), failing to score in all but one of those matches.

The exception is their 1-0 win at the Liberty Stadium on 11 March 2012, when Luke Moore scored a late winner. That is their only victory against Manchester City in 31 years.

Manchester City have failed to score in their two previous trips to the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City

The Swans are winless in their past five league matches, although three of those games ended in draws.

In all competitions, the Welsh side have won just twice in 15 matches (D7, L6).

Swansea took 39 points from their 37 Premier League games in 2013, compared to 55 points from 39 matches in 2012.

Manchester City

Victory would see Manchester City win back-to-back Premier League away games for the first time under Manuel Pellegrini. They last accomplished the feat on 29 December 2012 and 13 January 2013, winning at Norwich then Arsenal.

Manchester City have taken 22 points from the past 24 available in the Premier League.

In all competitions, they have won 10 of their past 11 games.

Their tally of 54 Premier League goals is the most by any side in their opening 19 games.
