Chelsea have won 43 of the 93 competitive matches with Birmingham, drawing 25 and losing 25.
The London Blues have lost only one of their last 19 league and cup meetings. It’s nearly 33 years since the Brummie Blues won at Stamford Bridge, prevailing 2-1 in the old Second Division in September 1979.
But in the FA Cup, Birmingham have had the better of the exchanges, progressing in five of their eight previous ties. They triumphed 3-0 in a quarter-final replay on their way to the final in 1931, while Chelsea’s 3-0 home victory in January 1970 was the start of the route to their first FA Cup crown.
