Chelsea 3-0 Aston Villa Highlights

Diego Costa’s outstanding start to his career at Chelsea continued as he grabbed his eighth goal to help the leaders to victory against Aston Villa.

The Spain striker scored one and helped create another as the Blues secured their fifth win of the season.

Oscar was first on the scoresheet when he tapped in after Willian’s shot was saved by Brad Guzan.

Costa added a second with a header before his jinking run and shot led to Willian’s goal from close range.

Head-to-head

Aston Villa ended a run of four successive defeats by Chelsea with a 1-0 victory at Villa Park in March courtesy of Fabian Delph’s backheeled goal. Chelsea had Willian and Ramires sent off, while manager Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands.

Chelsea have only lost one of their last 12 home games in this fixture (W8, D3, L1). Their 8-0 victory in December 2012 is Villa’s record defeat.

Chelsea

Chelsea are the league’s leading scorers with 16 goals in five matches.

Eight of their last nine league goals have been scored in the second half.

They have already earned a league-high seven points from losing positions, coming from behind to win two league matches this season.

Jose Mourinho has only won one of his last six matches against Villa (2-1 at Stamford Bridge last season)

Aston Villa

Villa are striving to win three successive Premier League away matches for the first time since April 2010.

Ten points from five games represents their best start since 2009, when they earned 12 points.

This is the third of five straight fixtures against last season’s top five for Paul Lambert’s side. They next host Manchester City and then visit Everton.

They have registered just eight shots on target in five Premier League games this season, fewer than any other side.

Villa are the only Premier League team yet to concede an away goal this season.
