Barcelona booked their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League with an unconvincing victory over German side Schalke in the Nou Camp.
Barca withstood huge pressure, with Victor Valdes saving from Halil Altintop, Kevin Kuranyi heading wide and Jermaine Jones firing off target. The hosts went ahead when Bojan Krkic’s deflected cross was headed off the line and Yaya Toure tapped in the rebound. Barca’s 2-0 aggregate win sets up a last-four tie with Manchester United. Frank Rijkaard’s side went through fairly comfortably in the end, but the scoreline does not reflect how much of a test they were given by the German side. After the Catalans were booed off following their poor performance in a 0-0 at home to Getafe on Sunday, Barca had a point to prove in front of their demanding Nou Camp faithful.
