Man City 0-0 Wigan Highlights
Wigan earned an important point in their fight to avoid relegation against a Manchester City side whose season is in danger of fizzling out.
Benjani wasted City’s two best chances as he was denied by Chris Kirkland’s block, then turned Darius Vassell’s cross wide early in the second half. City struggled to find any rhythm and Wigan finished the stronger side. Wilson Palacios should have won the game for Wigan late on, but City keeper Joe Hart made a crucial block. City were without the injured Micah Richards and suspended Martin Petrov, and the loss of two such influential figures was keenly felt in a first-half that made a mockery of its billing as entertainment. Stephen Ireland almost opened the scoring after 23 minutes with a curling shot that drifted just off target and Wigan keeper Kirkland needed to be brave to dive at the feet of Benjani as the striker’s touch let him down.
