Chelsea won the Champions League for the second time with a fully deserved victory over Manchester City in an all-Premier League confrontation in Porto.

Thomas Tuchel got the better of his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola for the third time since succeeding sacked Frank Lampard in January to bring European club football’s biggest prize back to Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2012.

Kai Havertz, blossoming after a slow start to his Chelsea career, got the winner three minutes before half-time when he collected a defence-splitting pass from Mason Mount to round City goalkeeper Ederson and score.

It leaves City still searching for the Champions League, the trophy that has always eluded them, and Guardiola cannot escape scrutiny for his part in this defeat after taking a tactical gamble which backfired.

Guardiola surprisingly decided against utilising either Rodri or Fernandinho as a defensive midfielder, leaving City with a muddled game plan that reduced their effectiveness and rarely presented Chelsea with any problems.

Willian’s second-half penalty after Fernandinho’s red card for handball sealed the title for Liverpool and boosted Chelsea’s top-four hopes.iverpool were crowned champions of England for the first time in 30 years after Manchester City lost to Chelsea.

Only a win for City at Stamford Bridge would have allowed them to hold on to the Premier League trophy for a little longer and their two-year reign is now officially over.

Pep Guardiola’s side lost a total of six league games in those two seasons combined, but their eighth defeat of this campaign leaves them 23 points behind the leaders, with seven games left.

Kevin de Bruyne’s brilliant second-half free-kick cancelled out Christian Pulisic’s breakaway goal for the hosts but Liverpool’s title was confirmed with 12 minutes left when Fernandinho was sent off for handball on the line and Willian dispatched the resulting penalty.

Chelsea come from behind to beat Manchester City and make it eight Premier League wins in a row.

The game turned on Kevin de Bruyne’s 56th-minute miss with City in control, crashing Navas’ cross against the bar from inside the six-yard box.

Chelsea were level on the hour when Diego Costa outmuscled Nicolas Otamendi to score and they were ahead 10 minutes later when substitute Willian raced clear to beat City keeper Claudio Bravo with ease.

Eden Hazard completed a magnificent win for Chelsea with another goal on the break, showing too much pace for Aleksandar Kolarov to wrap up three vital points.

Sergio Aguero was denied three times by Chelsea keeper Asmir Begovic before he marked his first game of the season with a goal after Yaya Toure’s pass.

City were dominant, Eden Hazard forcing Joe Hart into his only serious save.

Vincent Kompany made it 2-0 with a header from David Silva’s corner before Fernandinho fired home from 18 yards.

The midfielder, who left the Blues in the summer, came off the bench to sweep home late on.

His celebrations were muted against the side he spent 13 years with.

Chelsea had taken the lead through Andre Schurrle’s close-range finish shortly after City had Pablo Zabaleta sent off.

Chelsea condemned Manchester City to a first home Premier League defeat of the season last February, when Branislav Ivanovic scored the only goal. That result completed the league double over City.

However, City beat Chelsea 2-0 in the FA Cup 12 days later – their fifth victory in the last six meetings at the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea have won 11 Premier League matches away at Manchester City, more than any other team.

The defending champions are seeking their first league win in three matches; failure to beat Chelsea would represent their worst run for 19 months, when they only earned two points out of a possible nine.

City only dropped five points at home last season, winning 17 of their 19 fixtures and registering a league-high 52 points. They have already lost to Stoke this campaign.

It is more than four years since City went two matches without a home win in the Premier League; they were held to successive goalless draws in November 2010 by Manchester United and Birmingham City.

Manchester City defeated Chelsea to advance to the last eight of the FA Cup, courtesy of goals from Stevan Jovetic and Samir Nasri.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side dominated the match to avenge their recent Premier League loss to the visitors.

Jovetic, who had earlier hit the bar, gave City a first-half lead with a low finish off the inside of the post.

Nasri, making his return from injury, completed victory when he rifled home after a neat one-two with David Silva.

After the visitors dominated the first half, Ivanovic opened the scoring with a precise low shot from 20 yards out.

Samuel Eto’o, Nemanja Matic and Gary Cahill all hit the woodwork as Chelsea continued to look the better team.

David Silva and Stevan Jovetic had late chances, but Chelsea held on to draw level on points with City in second.

Fernando Torres snatched a stoppage-time winner for Chelsea as they moved back up to second in the Premier League with victory against Manchester City.

Torres scored after a defensive mix-up saw City’s Matija Nastasic head a long ball past onrushing keeper Joe Hart.

Torres had teed up Andre Schurrle to sidefoot the Blues ahead.

Sergio Aguero thundered in a shot to level for City but they suffered a third defeat of the season following Torres’s late strike.
