Liverpool wrecked Manchester City’s hopes of returning to the top of the Premier League and delivered more evidence of vast improvement under new manager Jurgen Klopp with an emphatic victory at The Etihad.

Klopp’s side tore City apart with a dazzling first-half performance, which saw them take a 3-0 lead through Eliaquim Mangala’s early own goal and cool finishes from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

Sergio Aguero gave City faint hope when he pulled a goal back on half time but City were undermined by shambolic defending as they failed to cope with the absence of injured captain Vincent Kompany.

Liverpool, however, never looked like conceding their advantage and Martin Skrtel’s thunderous late fourth confirmed their superiority as they added this fine away win to their recent victory at champions Chelsea.

Arsenal moved level on points with second-placed Manchester City and heightened Hull’s relegation worries with a superb display at KC Stadium.

The Gunners were sensational in the first half and Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring with a deflected free-kick.

Aaron Ramsey netted the second with another deflected strike before setting up Sanchez to beat keeper Steve Harper.

Stephen Quinn’s header gave Hull hope, but the defeat sees them slip to fourth-bottom on goal difference.

Head-to-head

Hull famously beat Arsenal 2-1 in the first-ever top-flight match between the sides back in 2008. They then lost the next five league meetings before drawing at the Emirates in October.

Arsenal beat Hull in the FA Cup final last year and also in this season’s third round.

Loic Remy’s late winner at KCOM Stadium extended Chelsea’s Premier League lead over Manchester City to six points.

The visitors went two goals ahead after Eden Hazard fired in and Diego Costa curled in his 20th of the season.

But Hull replied with two goals in 74 seconds as Ahmed Elmohamady slid in before Abel Hernandez took advantage of an error by goalkeeper Courtois.

Substitute Remy then beat Allan McGregor to score with his first touch.

Chelsea edged towards the Premier League title with a draw against Southampton in a what was a superb contest at Stamford Bridge.

Diego Costa gave Chelsea the lead with a header before Dusan Tasic equalised from the spot after Nemanja Matic had fouled forward Sadio Mane.

Southampton keeper Fraser Forster made a handful of great saves to deny Oscar, Eden Hazard and Loic Remy.

The Blues have a six-point lead over Manchester City with a game in hand.

George Boyd scored the winner to give Burnley a famous win against Manchester City and damage the champions’ hopes of retaining their Premier League title.

Boyd arrowed in a low half-volley after a poor headed clearance from returning City captain Vincent Kompany.

The visitors had wasted chances as Edin Dzeko had a shot saved by Tom Heaton and Sergio Aguero headed just over.

This shock result means City remain five points behind leaders Chelsea, who also have two matches in hand.

Philippe Coutinho scored a stunning winner as Liverpool dented Manchester City’s Premier League title defence with a narrow victory at Anfield.

Jordan Henderson’s curling effort put the Reds ahead before Edin Dzeko finished off a slick move to equalise.

But Brazil midfielder Coutinho capped a fine display with the decisive goal when he struck from 25 yards.

The result leaves City five points behind Chelsea having played a game extra, while Liverpool move to fifth.

Santi Cazorla scored one goal and created another as Arsenal ended Manchester City’s 12-match unbeaten run and damaged their title hopes.

Spain playmaker Cazorla converted a first-half penalty after Vincent Kompany fouled Nacho Monreal.

Arsenal added a second after the break when Cazorla’s free-kick picked out Olivier Giroud and the France striker headed in from close range.

The result left City five points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.

The visitors almost went behind when Romelu Lukaku had an effort saved and Seamus Coleman’s shot hit the crossbar.

But City took the lead when David Silva’s deflected shot was glanced in by Fernandinho, although Everton claimed a handball in the build up.

Everton equalised shortly after when forward Steven Naismith headed in a Leighton Baines free-kick.

Everton had their chances, with Romelu Lukaku brilliantly denied by Joe Hart.

Sergio Aguero’s second-half goal secures Manchester City a 1-0 derby victory over 10-man Manchester United.

Aguero was twice denied in the first half by David De Gea, before United defender Chris Smalling was sent off.

City then took the lead just after the hour as Aguero fired into the roof of the net from Gael Clichy’s pass.

Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria were both denied by Joe Hart as City held firm for the win.

But a disputed Mohamed Diame strike – the midfielder seemed to foul Mathieu Flamini – and an Abel Hernandez header secured the win for Steve Bruce’s side.

Chelsea took the lead in the first half at the Stamford Bridge when Eden Hazard converted from the penalty spot after he been brought down Laurent Koscielny.

Spain striker Costa added a second after the break when he latched on to long pass from Cesc Fabregas and lifted the ball over Wojciech Szczesny.
