Man City 5-0 Fulham Highlights

A Yaya Toure hat-trick helped Manchester City keep the pressure on the Premier League top two with a win over bottom of the table Fulham.

Toure gave City the lead from the penalty spot, after Fernando Amorebieta’s foul on Alvaro Negredo.

He scored a second penalty, after Amorebieta saw red for fouling Silva, and then curled home a stunning third.

Fernandinho shot into the top corner before Martín Demichelis tapped in to move City into third.

Manchester City are enjoying a nine-match unbeaten run against Fulham in the league, winning the last four. It equals their longest top-flight unbeaten run against the Whites (April 1967 to April 2005).

Fulham have conceded the opening goal in a league-high 21 matches this season.

The Whites are enduring a six-match winless streak in away games, conceding 16 goals in that period.

Wayne Rooney scored two goals, including an exquisite lobbed finish, as Manchester United overcame Robin van Persie’s absence to win at West Ham.

Rooney, now third in United’s all-time goalscorers list on 212, put his side ahead with a stunning lob from just inside the Hammers’ half.

The England striker doubled the lead after Mark Noble’s attempted clearance fell straight to Rooney to steer home.

West Ham were poor, Andy Carroll’s tame header the closest they came to a goal.

Ten-man Manchester City recovered from Vincent Kompany’s early dismissal to edge out Hull City and move up to second in the Premier League table.

Captain Kompany saw red for bundling over Nikica Jelavic as the Croatian ran towards goal inside 10 minutes.

But David Silva’s superb strike settled the nerves and Pablo Zabaleta almost made it 2-0 when his shot hit the bar.

The Tigers had plenty of possession but created little and Edin Dzeko sealed the win late on with a cool low finish.

Cardiff have kept one clean sheet in nine league games under Solskjaer, conceding 18 goals.

The Bluebirds have the worst first-half record in the Premier League. They have led only twice at half-time and scored just six goals before the interval.

Chelsea moved seven points clear at the top of the Premier League after sinking Tottenham with four second-half goals.

There was little in the game until Jan Vertonghen’s error let Samuel Eto’o in to fire the Blues ahead.

Younes Kaboul was sent off for fouling Eto’o soon afterwards, and Eden Hazard slotted home the resulting penalty.

Demba Ba made it 3-0 late on following a slip by Sandro, then completed the scoring when he latched on to Kyle Walker’s disastrous back-header.

Arsenal fell four points behind leaders Chelsea in the race for the Premier League title after Jonathan Walters’s penalty earned Stoke City victory.

Walters held his nerve after Laurent Koscielny was adjudged to have handled inside his area by referee Mike Jones.

Arsenal were poor, with substitute Yaya Sanogo wasting a great chance to equalise deep in stoppage time.

Charlie Adam was fortunate not to be sent off for treading on Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud before Walters’s goal.

Eden Hazard scored a hat-trick to send Chelsea to the top of the Premier League with victory against Newcastle.

Hazard, magnificent in Monday’s 1-0 win at Manchester City, was in inspired form throughout and drove in the opener from Branislav Ivanovic’s pass.

Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko was denied one-on-one by Petr Cech, before Hazard finished off a fine sweeping move.

Hazard got his third in the second half, scoring from the penalty spot after Samuel Eto’o was fouled.

With league leaders Arsenal losing 5-1 to Liverpool and Manchester City drawing at Norwich, Chelsea’s win moved them one point clear at the top of the standings.

Manchester City missed a chance to return to the top of the Premier League after being held at Norwich.

The visitors appeared hungover from their defeat by Chelsea on Monday and their only genuine chance came when Alvaro Negredo headed against the bar.

Norwich’s Nathan Redmond fired high and wide before Jesus Navas was off target.

The visitors had to hang on near the end as Norwich were inches from scoring and after Chelsea’s win over Newcastle, they slipped to third in the table.

Stoke City 2-1 Man Utd Highlights

Charlie Adam’s double strike gave Stoke their first league win over Manchester United since 1984 and lifted the Potters out of the relegation zone.

United started with Juan Mata, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney for the first time but fell behind when Adam’s free-kick flew in off Michael Carrick.

Van Persie levelled with a neat finish just after half-time.

But Adam immediately restored Stoke’s lead in spectacular style with a fierce 25-yard strike into the top corner.

Robin van Persie scored on his return from injury as Manchester United beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Cardiff City.

The striker, back after 11 games out, headed home after David Marshall had saved his first effort, moments after Antonio Valencia had hit the crossbar.

Ashley Young sealed the victory in the second half after cutting in from the left and firing home from 22 yards.

Debutant Juan Mata forced a save from Marshall and the keeper then tipped a Valencia shot onto the post.

Cardiff’s last win in this fixture was a 3-0 victory in the old Division One at Ninian Park on 26 November 1960.

The Bluebirds have played 13 league matches at Old Trafford and have won just twice.

Manchester United

Victory would make Manchester United the first club to earn 1,000 points at home in the Premier League – they currently stand on 998.

Thirty seven points from 22 matches is the lowest total they have mustered in any previous Premier League season at this stage.

They have already lost seven league games, a tally they have only previous exceeded in two Premier League seasons (they lost nine times in 2001-02 and 2003-04).

Against Chelsea in their last Premier League fixture, captain Nemanja Vidic received his fifth red card in the league – only Roy Keane has more (seven) for the club in the Premier League.

Cardiff City

Cardiff have won none and lost six of their last eight Premier League away games.

They have conceded at least two goals in six successive league matches, conceding 16 goals. January to April 1961 was the last time they had a longer top-flight run of conceding two or more goals (11 matches).

The Bluebirds have the best disciplinary record in the top flight this season with just 27 yellow cards and no reds.

They have scored 35% of their goals via headers – the highest proportion in the Premier League.

Five of Frazier Campbell’s last six league goals have come against Manchester United or Manchester City, and 42% of his overall total Premier League strikes have been against those two teams.

Hull 0-2 Chelsea Stats and Highlights

Second-half goals from Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres were enough to hand Chelsea victory at Hull and move them to the top of the Premier League.

With Manchester City playing on Sunday and Arsenal on Monday, the Blues took advantage against a resilient Hull.

Hazard opened the scoring 10 minutes after the break when he drifted along the 18-yard area before firing a low strike past Allan McGregor.

Torres added a late second when he struck in low from 18 yards.

Hull have only beaten Chelsea on four occasions, latterly in Division Two in October 1988.

Chelsea’s defensive record of 19 goals conceded is bettered only by Arsenal (18).

Petr Cech’s next clean sheet will be a club record 209th in all competitions. Cech currently has 208 from 457 games; Peter Bonetti managed 208 in 729 games.

Gary Cahill could make his 50th Premier League appearance for Chelsea.

Man City 2-1 Liverpool Stats and Highlights

Manchester City moved above opponents Liverpool up to second in the Premier League with an entertaining comeback win at the Etihad Stadium.

All the goals were scored in the first half as Liverpool, who were top of the league at the start of the day, led from Philippe Coutinho’s calm finish.

Vincent Kompany equalised with a near-post header from David Silva’s corner.

City won after Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet allowed Alvaro Negredo’s poked shot through his grasp.

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling wasted the away side’s best chance of an equaliser, firing wildly over the home crossbar.

Six of their last nine Premier League meetings have been draws, with City’s two wins and Liverpool’s solitary victory all coming by a 3-0 scoreline at home.

Manchester City

City are the only team in the Premier League yet to drop a point at home this season. They have also scored in each of their last 58 Premier League home games.

Liverpool

The Reds have won their last four league matches, scoring 17 goals in doing so. They last won five consecutive league fixtures within a single season in April-May 2009.

However, they have only won one of their last five Premier League away games (D2, L2).

Liverpool have won 11 of the 12 games in which they have opened the scoring this season, drawing the other.

Their last Boxing Day win was in 2009 when they beat Wolves by 2-0.

Luis Suarez already has 10 goals this December – the most in a month by any player in Premier League history. He has 29 goals in 26 league appearances this calendar year.

Arsenal missed the chance to take the Premier League top spot off Liverpool after being held to a goalless draw by an organised Chelsea side.

Frank Lampard hit the crossbar for the visitors in a drab first half as the Gunners, now second in the table, struggled to break down the Blues.

Theo Walcott did have a good penalty appeal turned down before the break.

Olivier Giroud had a shot saved by Petr Cech before Cesar Azpilicueta cleared Bacary Sagna’s header off the line.

No striker has scored an away league goal for Chelsea in 2013. Fernando Torres was the last centre forward to net on the road for the Blues, doing so in a 3-1 win at Sunderland on 8 December 2012.

Other all-Premier League third-round ties see Aston Villa host Tottenham, Arsenal travel to West Brom, West Ham face Cardiff and Everton play Fulham.

Holders Swansea make the trip to Championship side Birmingham.

Manchester City will host Wigan, while League One side Swindon will host Chelsea on 24-25 September.
