Chelsea Football Club are an English football club based in West London. Founded in 1905, they play in the Premier League and have spent most of their history in the top tier of English football.

The club had their first major success in 1955, when they won the league championship. Chelsea won several cup competitions during the 1960s and 1970s, but after that did not win another major title until 1997.

Despite their name, the club are not based in Chelsea, but in neighbouring Fulham. The club’s home is the 41,841 capacity Stamford Bridge football stadium in Fulham, where they have played since their establishment.

Chelsea’s regular kit colours are royal blue shirts and shorts with white socks, the combination used since the 1960s.

Chelsea entered in to FA Cup 2008-2009 semi-finals with a 2-0 victory over Coventry city.

Drogba scored in the 15th minute and Alex completed the score board in 72nd minute.

City worked hard for an equaliser but never managed to open up the visitors and Chelsea remained well on top.

Chelsea’s title hopes took a further dent as they dropped yet more home points, drawing 0-0 with Hull City.

Both sides had chances to win the game with Chelsea captain John Terry missing an open goal from close range early on.

Chelsea’s Michael Ballack hit the outside of the post with a fine free-kick while Hull’s Kevin Kilbane did likewise with a header.

Hull had the better of the second half chances with Craig Fagan and Dean Marney going close for the visitors.

Chelsea now slip to fourth in the Premier League table with Aston Villa replacing them in third, with the Blues four points behind leaders Manchester United having played two games more.

The Blues handed a debut to new loan signing Ricardo Quaresma but it was one of their stalwarts, Terry, who had the first chance of the game.

Terry blazed over from three yards out after Frank Lampard’s inswinging free-kick had been headed into his path.

Stoke City 0-0 Liverpool Highlights

Stoke City earned a deserved point against Liverpool as the Premier League leaders produced a lifeless performance at the Britannia Stadium.

Rory Delap came closest to breaking the deadlock for Stoke early on when he rattled the bar from close range – and Liverpool could have had no complaints if Tony Pulis’ side had claimed all three points.

But captain Steven Gerrard almost snatched the win Liverpool’s display barely merited when he angled a free-kick against the bar with six minutes left, then struck a post in stoppage time.

Liverpool never exerted any serious dominance over Stoke, failing to increase the pressure on Manchester United and Chelsea ahead of their meeting at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The game was played out in a typically vibrant atmosphere at the Britannia – and against the backdrop of Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez’s public tirade against his Manchester United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson.

But his players failed to follow his defiant words with actions, leaving both Manchester United and Chelsea with the opportunity to close in on Liverpool.

Chelsea bounced back from their home defeat to Liverpool and ended Hull’s sequence of four straight wins with a deserved victory at the KC Stadium.

Frank Lampard’s brilliant early lob put Chelsea ahead but Daniel Cousin almost equalised with a low strike from 20 yards that hit the post.

Suicidal hesitation in the Hull defence allowed Nicolas Anelka to steel in and smash home Chelsea’s decisive second.

Florent Malouda then converted Ricardo Carvalho’s cross from six yards.

Hull had beaten the four previous London clubs they had met this season – Fulham, Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham – but they were brought back down to earth by Chelsea.

Luiz Felipe Scolari’s team put in a thoroughly professional performance, regularly cutting open Hull and always appearing to be in control.

Afonso Alves’ disputed penalty set Middlesbrough on their way to a hard-fought victory over Manchester City.

Boro keeper Ross Turnbull kept out shots by Stephen Ireland and Shaun Wright-Phillips as City threatened.

But the home side took the lead when Daniel Sturridge tangled with David Wheater and referee Lee Mason awarded a spot-kick that Alves converted.

City poured forward in search of an equaliser but Gary O’Neil’s breakaway goal in injury time sealed Boro’s win.

Both sides had something to prove going into this game – Boro after they were crushed 5-0 by Chelsea in their last home game and City on their first return to the Riverside since an 8-1 drubbing on the final day of last season.

After a scrappy start it was City who were quickest to settle and Robinho, looking to add to his tally of six goals in six league games since his £32m move from Real Madrid, was first to test Turnbull with a low shot from the edge of the area.
